Whirlpool WP3355458 Washer Lid Switch Assembly

This genuine Whirlpool WP3355458 lid switch assembly detects whether the washing machine lid is open or closed. It prevents the washer from spinning and agitating when the lid is open, serving as a critical safety component. This part replaces the earlier number 3355458. When the lid switch fails, the washer may not spin, agitate, or start at all, even with the lid fully closed.

Technical Specifications

Symptoms Fixed by Replacing WP3355458

  • Washer will not spin: The lid switch does not send the closed signal to the control, so the spin cycle never engages.
  • Washer will not agitate: Without a closed-lid signal, the agitator stays idle even when the cycle is running.
  • Washer fills with water but stops: The fill cycle completes, but the motor will not engage because the lid switch is open-circuit.
  • Clicking sound from lid area: The switch actuator is worn or broken, causing intermittent contact.

Installation Instructions

  1. Unplug the washing machine from the electrical outlet.
  2. Open the lid and remove the screws securing the lid switch bracket under the top panel.
  3. Disconnect the wire harness from the old lid switch assembly.
  4. Remove the old switch from the mounting bracket.
  5. Install the new WP3355458 lid switch onto the bracket and reconnect the wire harness.
  6. Secure the bracket screws and close the lid.
  7. Plug the washer back in and run a test cycle to confirm the washer spins and agitates with the lid closed and stops when opened.

Installation typically takes 15 minutes to 1 hour. No special tools required beyond a standard screwdriver.
