- Unplug the refrigerator. Open the door and locate the switch near the cabinet liner, upper hinge cover, or control housing. Protect the surrounding finish. Release the switch tabs with a plastic putty knife or small flat-blade screwdriver, or remove the retaining cover screws as required by the model. Photograph the wiring, then disconnect each terminal by gripping the connector rather than pulling the wire. Connect the replacement switch in the same positions and press it into place until the tabs lock. Reinstall any covers, restore power, and verify the interior light, fan, dispenser, and door alarm operate correctly. Switch location and disassembly vary by model; consult the appliance service manual.
